Varsity Scout Operation On Target
Dear Friends:
I am pleased to recognize the accomplishment of each of you as you stand on the heights above the earth as part of Operation On Target.
I know that each of you has worked hard and learned new skills, and I hope you have enjoyed the satisfaction of striving together for the common goal of this project.
Like you, I once went to the heights above the earth. My trip was different, of course. I was able to look down and see the whole earth, spinning silently and beautifully against the vastness of space. From my tiny spacecraft I could see whole continents, undivided by boundaries separating people from their neighbors. I realized then that each of us must work to overcome these artificial divisions, and strive to protect all the fragile life systems on our planet home.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to dedicate yourselves to working for a world in which all people may live in harmony with their neighbors. Your project today, linking Canada to Mexico by a mirror signal passed from one group of scouts to another, is a good start, and one that you will remember all your lives.
Congratulations on your participation, and good luck!
Best regards and sincerely,
John Glenn
United States Senator
