On Target Letter of
Gary Trost, BYU Basketball Player

When I look back on my life, some of the most enjoyable experiences I have had resulted from my involvement in scouting. I love the challenges, adventure, and fulfillment found in scouting. The various areas of learning found in scouting kept me reaching for my Eagle award. There was always something to do or something to learn. Not only did the scout trips and adventures provide the fun physical challenges, but I also learned values concerning our great country, our environment, and our fellow man. Looking back, I remember the jamborees and outings, but I feel that my integrity and values reaped the great blessings from scouting.

In life there are many challenges to face both physically and morally. We as scouts must be firm in our faith to upholding the scout law. In our society it is refreshing to see someone who is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, etc. Scouting is integrity. Do you have integrity? Can you be trusted and counted upon? I hope I can be trusted.

We all have trials, which seem like large looming mountains, but if we rely on what values we learn in scouting we can conquer our trials.

You young men have so many great things to look forward to. Life is sweet when you can look inside yourself and feel honorable. Reach for the highest goals! There are many goals I have achieved and many that I am still working towards.

Be excited for your future! Live your lives with great values, achieving the highest goals. I am proud to be an Eagle Scout and I hope many of you have this same goal. Remember to live life to the fullest -- AND STAY ON TARGET!

Sincerely,

Gary Trost
