My Fellow Scouts,

As you stand now atop tall mountain peaks, breathing the clear, crisp air found only at such heights and surveying the world from your lofty vantage point, I salute you! Each of you has set yourself apart as one who will put forth the effort necessary, regardless of the difficulty, to reach a goal that is worthwhile.

As you climbed today you have experienced laughter, brotherhood, joy. Together you have communicated with others at distant points. As with so many situations in life, teamwork has enabled you to reach this goal -- teamwork that eliminates the weakness of one standing alone and substitutes the strength of many working together. May you ever recognize its importance to your success and remember to acknowledge all who help you along the pathway of life.

May today's experience serve to whet your appetite for future accomplishments. The drive, the tenacity which helped you climb can assist you throughout your life in realizing any goal. There is deep satisfaction and joy which come from a goal attained, a job well done. I know you feel that satisfaction and joy now as you stand tall and proud on your mountain peak.

Although you must soon return from today's quest, remember that you can ascend the Scouting trail each day. As you do so, you will increase you ability to think, to plan, to achieve. These traits will enable you to live in a world of change, to live with uncertainty and yet to act with confidence. They will serve, along with your personal integrity, as guideposts to you during your entire journey through life.

May our Heavenly Father bless you with abundant joy each day, and may He watch over you always.

Sincerely your brother,

Thomas S. Monson
