Making a Signal Mirror - Part I

Before you can learn to aim, you must first make your signaling mirror.

To make a signal mirror:  you need two mirrors of approximately the same size (preferably 3 to 4 inches in size), some glue, a nail, and a pencil with an eraser.  On the back side of both mirrors, scrape off paint and metallic film.  Make sure that the holes are in the same place so that when you glue them together, they match.  Clean up the holes using a pencil eraser.  Next, glue the two mirrors together, making sure to match the holes on the back.  Now your signaling mirror is complete.

Now that you have a signaling mirror, you can start practicing your aim.

How to Use a Signal Mirror

You must be able to manage a number of things at once. Though it may seem complex at first, with practice & use, it becomes "second nature" and a valuable resource in your ability.... to survive.

  1. Look though the hole at your target.
  2. Find the "dot" in the back mirror (usually on your hand, face, or shirt).
  3. While looking at your target, arrange the mirror such that the "dot" crosses back & forth over the hole.

In other words, while looking at your target, align the reflected hole with the real hole, and you're... ON TARGET!
